Gee, I've been reading memoirs lately, too. Actually I abandoned several but really enjoyed one: "Losing Mum and Pup" by Christopher Buckley. Christopher is a novelist who is the son of William F. Buckley. If you don't like William F. Buckley, don't let that stop you from reading this. Christo is not always flattering but is always loving as regards his father. He is the only child of any extraordinary couple and an engaging writer. The book is a worthwhile read especially if you are in mid-life and facing or have faced the loss of your own parents.

This is a very good review of Gone With The Wind. It is amazing to me that almost everyone remembers when they first read the book or saw the movie. The movie is 70 years old this year. New readers of discovering it everyday and most of us reread it frequently. We all have our favorite characters but "our own dear Scarlett" is the one the reviews are about. Collecting memorabilia from this movie is very popular.

I love this book and may read it again now that you've described it so well. I wonder if I'll notice Mammy's lines more now than I did when I read it as a teenager. The sin of reading the last page of a book is committed only on oneself.

Hi, there! My name is Beth Fehlbaum, and my debut novel, Courage in Patience, is being released in September. It goes on sale next month, though on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. I'm in the process of setting up a blog tour beginning in March, and seeking hosts. PLEASE check out my site, http://courageinpatience.blogspot.com and let me know if you would be interested in hosting me on one of my stops! I would LOVE to get to know your teen readers because I know they will enjoy Courage in Patience.
Anyone who hosts me in my blog tour will have their name put in a hat for an autographed copy of Courage in Patience. Please e-mail me at beth@bethfehlbaum.com, if you would like to talk about my tour.
Thanks!

I recently finished Ann Packer's "Songs without words" and found it just as good as her earlier novel, "The Dive from Claussen's Pier." It is a story about a friendship between two women, one of whom is married with children and one who remains single. The book is about the roles they fill in each other's lives and how their relationship affects and is affected by a certain extraordinary stress.

Another "Ann" book I just read was Ann Patchett's new novel, "Run." This is the story of a family, a former Boston mayor and his two adopted sons. It was extremely engaging and the characters stay with the reader long after the book is done.

If you like Ann Tyler or Elizabeth Berg or Anita Shreve you might like either of these "Ann" books.
